hi, i have a problem setting up the gateway in slackware 8.1.  all the computers in my office has valid ip addresses, we were assigned one netblock, from x.x.x.66     x.x.x.126 netmask is 255.255.255.192.   the gateway ip is x.x.x.46 netmask 255.255.255.192.

in windows setting it up had no problems.  but in slackware 8.1 it doesnt seem to work, i've used netconfig, and tried editing the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 file manually...still nothing!!  i've tried doing   #/sbin/route add default x.x.x.46,  and it returns "SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable".  dont know what to do, please help me.

does it matter if the gateway belongs to another netblock?  if so, how come windows accepts it as its gateway?  i really tried everything i can.
