While the statutes are badly drafted, the undeniable shoddyness in the law itself pales in comparison with how moronic articles like this one are. Badly worded laws that _could_ have catastrophic effects if applied in an empty-headed fashion by the courts get passed all the time. Fortunately, the courts would examine not only the wording of the statute but also the legislative history and surrounding societal details, to determine what the state legislature wanted to do. Anyone who thinks the courts are going to hold that (among other things) every corporate firewall in the state is banned by law is just _not_ using his head. Of course, what Prof. Felten was trying to do, ultimately, is call attention to the miserable state of those statutes' wording, to motivate their amendment either before or after passage, so the courts won't _have_ to compensate for the legislatures' sloppiness. -- Cheers, Rick Moen This space for rant.
