on a shrike(RH9) install:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# which yacc /usr/bin/yacc [EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# rpm -qf /usr/bin/yacc byacc-1.9-25
so, you might want to install that rpm, the equivalent version anyway on RH7.3. :) hang in there dude, ur doing fine.

no dude. you either 1.) compiled the aic7xxx into the kernel by marking its checkbox with an asterix, or 2.) you did not compile support for it at all (left its check box blank). mkinitrd just makes sure the kernel modules u need to start your system can be found at boot time.
now, your previous kernel config states that it set the aic7xxx driver as a kernel module. u may have compiled it into ur new kernel (check your make menuconfig settings). if you did, u need to remove the aic7xxx module line from ur /etc/modules.conf file and do mkinitrd. if you didnt compile support for it, you need to enable it as a module (marking it with an "M" or compile it in).
you can find aic7xxx in SCSI Support->SCSI Low-level Drivers->Adaptec AIC7xxx support. i dont think u need RAID support pa dito if you're not using RAID anyways. good luck!

hi, ive installed a fresh 7.3...... i decided to upgrade to the latest stable kernel 2.4.20... because of the bug in 2.4.18-3 on smp.. i did the usual process of make mrproper.. bla bla upto make modules_install..
then tried to create a initrd.. but i got this error...
---> No module aic7xxx found for kernel 2.4.20
i think its telling me 2.4.20 doesnt have the driver for my scsi adapter.. so i tried to visit adaptec and got the source driver for it...
after it im stuck... can someone tell me the next step... do i have to add the driver source to the kernel? or do i have to compile it and copy it to the loadable modules for the specified kernel?
INFO: P3 dual processor hardware raid RAID 5 using grub
btw i did check on RAID support in the menuconfig..
TIA
