I recently compiled the alsa sound drivers using the Redhat kernel source version 2.4.14 while the kernel running at that time was kernel 2.4.18. The resulting drivers compiled were those for kernel 2.4.14. Can't I use the 2.4.14 kernel source to compile alsa drivers for kernel 2.4.18? I recall that when using the original kernel sources I get the module versions according to the same kernel running at the time of compilation. Is there a file I could just edit?
Thanks.
i'm confused...
if your going to edit the version number, try
/usr/src/kernel version number/include/linux/version.h
but you cant just edit the version num in order to override things. you'll end with the error "undefined ..." whenever you load those modules. (been there, also with alsa)
why not compile those alsa drivers with your current kernel?
