I think Rxvt doesn't use X resources (part of the reason it's so slimmed 
down compared to Xterm).

What I used to do is make an alias "rxvt" which coughs up the real thing 
with the long string of command-line arguments. Those were the days.. (now 
I use the memory hog Gnome-Terminal without a second thought..)
