Umm, Linus didn't leave Transmeta. His employer put him on
secondment ("loaned him") for a year.

Linus' letter says "...I've decided to take a leave-of-absense after 6+ years at Transmeta..." that seems to imply that that "leave-of-absence" was more of his personal decision than of transmeta. Anyway a leave-of-absence is different from resignation - so you are correct, he still is with transmeta.
I think transmeta couldn't place in their press release that "Torvalds decided to take a leave of absence from us to work at OSDL", so perhaps they made it sound better, hence the secondment.
IMHO, both could be correct since Linus' letter (the basis of the inquirer article in the parent post) predates the official press release.
