hi,
my computer has been acting weird lately (almost a week). i tried
to re-install slack 9.0 from cd but some of its packages have been
corrupted. so i tried installing from a network by mounting my slack
cd on another pc and share it via nfs. the installation went find. so
i thought it was the cd rom drive. i swapped the cd rom drives to see
if it is the problem but it is not the cd drive. i also checked the
hardrive for badblocks by the 'e2fsck -c' command and also a surface
scan from dos' scandisk. there was no problem found.
when i tried to tar -zt < slack-pack.tgz on my computer it returns
a crc error but when i tried reading it from another computer there are
no errors. sometimes packages a goes corrupted upon installation but
another instance its package b.
my guess is the there is something wrong on the medium that my
computer transfers data from cd to hardisk or from hdax to hday. i
think its the ide ribbon cables. how can I further diagnose my
problem? its relatively a new computer (6 months old) but its acting
like our 8 yr old p 133 with unpredictable errors. i even get seg
faults when unmounting devices.
