hmmm... ;) anyway, regarding emacs running on such hardware, i think you
would be better of getting the 'stripped down' emacs, so that it won't hog
too much of your very little resources. why not explore other text editors
like vi and nano? i think they're more lightweight than emacs.

and i think you're better off with the console than with X on that
machine, and try getting midnight commander up for your file management
needs, then use the GNU/Linux tools for _anything_ you might possibly
need, without having to resort to GUI based solutions.

since you're on slackware, and a coffee loving masochist, you might want
to try coding your own ncurses based applications to boot. ;)
