You're in luck.  I happen to read something about this on an article on
Linux Magazine last night.  You can out the options in your
~/.Xresources file.  However the options are a bit cryptic.  Here is a
sample option for setting the position and size of xterm: 

 *.xterm.vt100.geometry: 94x53-0+88

You can use editres to know the variables of an X application.  AFAIK,
you can also use it to create your .Xresources file.

I hope I provided you some clues.
