I've been using 2.5.70 on my machine for a couple months now
and haven't really experienced anything catastrophic for
normal usage.

Absolutely. Lots and lots of new goodies. See my "A 2.5.70
report" posted 6/20/2003 here at PLUG for a brief overview
(only covering the stuff I'm interested in).
