hi all,
i'm using a pentium iv 1.6Ghz with 512MB or RDRAM as a database server, application server, smb server, dhcpd, ltsp (text), lpd server, nfs server (ltsp), web server, etc...
the problem is the it slows down when one department does their database
reporting. the queries run for about 7 minutes hogging the whole cpu. and
other users (about 20) complain that the keystroke responses get long at
times.
why not try separating other services to other (low-end)machines? figure it out by monitoring the client's access to the services.
and kindly check the db query, it might not be optimized.
what kind of linux server hardware setup would you recommend? looks like we need to upgrade in the near future.
how about considering a multi-processor machine?
