Me, I am pretty excited on the outcome of the partnership between MySQL and SAPDB, in the opensource arena, this tandem will surely make a difference in the database industry. I've been following MySQL since their 3.22.x branch and I can tell that this database is really good and will continue to be.
In my opinion with regards to superiority, Oracle will still be the most superior of them all, because Oracle earns big bucks, and bulk of that money goes to research and development. Firebird, hrmm with our experience with their database, I am quite disappointed. Postgresql is pretty good, especially with stability but it lacks the new mechanisms that MySQL have like built-in replication, which we need for high-availability in our data. Haven't tried SAPDB yet, well i tried but they only have rpms =( So I guess the comparison should be Free RDBMS to Free RDBMS and Commercial RDBMS to Commercial RDBMS. PostgreSQL is the most stable for me. MySQL is the fastest for me. Oracle is the one with many features needed for the enterprise to run massive mission critical data. Probably the best but depends on what you really need. SAPDB promising but not quite there. Firebird/Interbase good well sort of. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Winelfred G.
