thanks. i used the .config from kernel-source-2.4.21-0.13mdk.i586.rpm.
using the mandrake kernel source everything works (well, depending
on just what i remove from .config :). when i take the same .config,
copy it to 2.4.19 and 2.4.21 vanilla and then make menuconfig and
exit and save (removes CONFIG_* which are in the mandrake
.config but not used by the vanilla sources, the kernel builds, but
i can't get iptables to work.

if you would email me your .config, it might help (although, actually,
i doubt it... i'm almost convinced that there's some unholy interaction
between kernel-source and iptables sources in mandrake 9.1). but
i'd be grateful for another data point anyway. particularly since compiles
with distcc and ccache now take half to 1/3rd the time (the 1/3rd is
mainly due to ccache :).

i'm trying to download the latest netfilter/iptables. but i'm having trouble
getting to the website/ftpsite. maybe netfilter.org is having bandwidth
problems? could anyone confirm that? if anyone can download it,
i'd be glad if there were a local mirror i could download it from.

thanks a lot.
