Hi,

I am new to this list. I hope you can help me with my problem in
my Software RAID config. This is the scenario:

I'm setting up a Linux Server and I am trying the Software RAID
since our school can't afford the Hardware RAID. I'm using a PIV
2.6GHz with 1GB DDR RAM with 2 80GB HD. The distro im using is RH 9.0.

I followed the manual for the Software RAID configuration and I
have successfully installed it without error messages. I have 2 problems:

   1. If I simulate a hard disk failure on my secondary IDE, my
server will boot and run on degraded mode. But when I return the
disk, it could not reconstruct the RAID Array which I suppose should
update the mirrored image. It is then still running in degraded
mode. By the way, I set the raid partition to use RAID 1.

   2. Second problem is if I simulate a disk failure on my Primary
IDE, my secondary IDE won't boot. I read from a RH7.1 manual the
I have to use the LILO loader but i still get the same problem.
I also set my /boot partition to use RAID 1.

I have carefully followed instructions that I downloaded from the
RH 9.0 Customization Guide and I don't know what I missed. I also
download several other guides from other sources and have tried
them too but still same problem.

I think the manual what Redhat has provided is lacking. Its only
a 3 page manual, no troubleshooting guides. I think people with
actual experience, like you guys, can help me.

Thanks.
