what exactly is the type of connection on both ends? if at least one has
a dedicated Internet connection, then it won't be much of a problem. you
could simply use, as suggested by others, SSH and SCP, through the
Internet to transfer files. You'll just need an IP address. And if the
IP addresses in the server end isn't static, use some dynamic DNS
service like www.dyndns.org offers. If the server has no Internet
connection whatsoever, you could always allow it to act as a dial-in
server using pppd and mgetty. That way you just dial to it like any
other ISP and access it through local authentication and IP addresses.
