yes, it will be similar to BBSes of the old days
a simple scenario would be:
user dials-up using an email-client or DUN
downloads mail, hangs-up or server would automatically
hang-up the line once the messages are downloaded/uploaded.

postfix will be the MTA, and the system will only accept
one caller at a time.

i've already setup postfix to transmit email from this PC
directly and recieve messages using getmail, now the hard
part is the remote logins and handling the downloads/uploads of messages
to/from the users. do i need to setup PPP? mgetty? there seems
to be some editing of the /etc/services file, am i right?

i've already search the web for howto's and came up empty.
even looked at edsamails website to get a hint on how they
do things.
