Using the following command while inside the /usr/src/linux-2.4.22
source tree:
strings vmlinux | grep gcc
I obtain the following output:
Linux version 2.4.22 ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 3.3)
#1 SMP Tue Sep 2 09:59:09 PHT 2003.
So you see, I was able to build linux-2.4.22 using gcc-3.3.
Similarly, if I give that command while inside the /usr/src/
linux-2.6.0-test6 source tree, I get the output:
Linux version 2.6.0-test6 ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
(gcc version 3.3.1) #1 SMP Mon Sep 29 09:25:53 PHT 2003
You see, I have upgraded to gcc-3.3.1 as soon as 3.3.1 was released.
I think the gcc series 3.3.N works properly when compiling the
kernel.
