Tests this week revealed that the open source file and print server
software Samba is more than twice as fast as Windows Server 2003. But
if this is the case, why isn't it more widely used?

The software comes with a good reputation, especially among those who
do use it, but ask most companies about their file and print server
and they will either stare back blankly or tell you they use Novell or
Windows.

So perhaps what Samba needs is the kind of support and movement behind
it that the Linux operating system has enjoyed over the past few
years, pushing it further into the IT director's conscience and up the
corporate purchasing ladder.
