let me correct myself. RH AS 2.1 was branched off from RH 7.2. therefore, their
base libraries are essentially the same. this is the reason why IBM supports
RH AS 2.1 and RH 7.2. however, there are significant optimizations to RH AS 2.1
that are not available for RH 7.2. so it is not possible to download a set of
patches to make a RH 7.2 into a RH AS 2.1.

however, you "normally" use RH 7.2 for things that need RH AS 2.1. just patch it
with the latest errata packages and compat libraries.

btw, you can download the SRPMS of all the RH AS versions from RedHat mirrors.
the one i frequently check out it mirrors.kernel.org.
