linux using the net-snmp software (http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/) 
should be giving out the standard OIDs at least
upto the ethernet devices.  and usually, the standard MIB files are 
included with the snmp sources so an snmpwalk should print out
the full text.  if not you can copy the MIB files over from
the previous working version or get them from www.ietf.org 
or from www.mibdepot.com
