FYI only:

Last 3 months ago, I asked if anyone could help me in network printing in Linux (Red Hat version 8 and higher),I'm trying to print in a Linux print server, using another Linux (Linux to Linux). Before, in Red Hat version 7.3 and prior, I never encounter this problem until, Red Hat 8 came out.

Some, speculate that I have to make sure that my firewall accepts the printing port of LPD. The rest never even bother to answer.

Anyway, to enable Linux printing in Red Hat 8 and higher (which uses CUPS intead of LPD), just install and enable "cups-lpd" (usually in xinetd). This is a sub daemon of cups that handles network printing by lpd port.

Its only been tested in the laboratory so I don't know if it stable enough to handle large volume of documents to be printed. Anyway, it can also handle Win2K&XP LPD printing to unix.

Hope this help
