You may or may not have noticed my qualifier ("Last time I tried the
Slackware approch [...] but things may have changed"), despite your
having quoted it. It seems that things have indeed changed.
Trust me. Much has changed.
I've helped people get Slackware going since then, frequently, but not maintained any such boxen.
Sure, 'a lot of things have changed' since then, I don't need to trust you to know that. ;-)
With the exception of two things:
1. I'm inclined to believe that Slackware's packaging system, being pretty much about as minimalistic as it can get, has not changed much from the times of RH 2.0 unless you can categorically explain otherwise.
2. Nor, I believe, has the situation wrt make uninstall targets being unavailable changed much since those days.
However...
Well-written configure scripts are indeed more the norm nowadays, and it makes the minimalistic Slackware approach towards making packages much more feasible.
But really, I don't know why I bother to keep on repeating myself since it's pretty apparent you've been pretty clueless about the subject at hand from your first post and instead of actually bothering to understand or at least shutting up, are still trying to cop a condescending attitude.
Apologies if I'm misreading the tone of your posts, but it's sure coming across as that.
