at last motorola updated their sm56 drivers. the bad news is that the drivers are only for redhat 7.3, 8.0 and 9 . i'm using slackware 9.0 with kernel 2.4.21 . the i performed an rpm -ivh --nodeps --force on their driver, the program said that it can only work on kernels 2.4.18, 2.4.20 and 2.4.22, so i downgraded my kernel to 2.4.20 (which is on the cd) .
when i installed the driver, there are "kernel taint" warnings (we'll i received these during the legacy drivers. here is a snapshopt of dmesg: 1 Motorola Softmodem: version SM56 Rel. 6.05 Build 02 2 SM56: SS_DisplayFatalErr - 0x8103 line 2 occured when i tried to initialize the modem in minicom. i have no idea what it means. has anyone tested it on a redhat 8.0/9 machine? -allan espinosa ===== *** Allan M.
