Guys, i'm really sorry about the unworkability of the Chikka TM with wine. i tried getting it to work on linux too, with wine among other things but ayaw talaga eh. it's funny coz my workstation is on linux and other IMs are banned in the office but i cant run our own IM. regarding javalite, you can't run it on linux because the signed certificate for the applet is only for the MS Internet Explorer VM. i tried running it as a java app (by having the developer package it so), but the fonts and the window elements are all messed up.

one of our developers did create a linux client on linux with gtk for testing purposes, but it has limited functionality only. it doesnt compare well to the Windows version. i think the main reason why linux by itself is not supported yet is because the platform is not considered big enough yet for the desktop.

i guess if the powers that be in the office do consider releasing a linux client, the following has to be answered:

what's the oldest distro and version combination to support? will binary-only releases be palatable to linux users? (i dont think the company's ready to release its client code yet). what windowing toolkit to use? gtk/gnome vs qt? static or dynamically linked? rpm or deb? there are so many questions simply because there are many options to choose from.

considering the questions above, i suppose it's easier for the company to release a java app version of the TM client than a native linux one.

thoughts are most welcome.

ps.
comments made above are my personal opinions only. in no way do they represent an official stand of my company. =)

I am very disappointed by Chikka on Linux, tried setting up chikka
client, it was ok, but when trying to send text it returns an internal
error. Javalite doesnt work too. So my last resort is TXT2mail, which
works fine. I sent an e-mail to chikka about this, particularly on their
javalite, and they said they're working on it, told me to wait for the
new version, that was mid last year, up to now, there is no improvement.
Why is chikka so biased on the OS. Aren't they considering Linux users
too, despite the fact that they're running Linux servers too.

Vince, anything you can do? ;)

Good day spikes!

Can you give me a sample code of the wine configuration that includes
the chikka config?

try putting the msvbvm60.dll to your ./c/windows/ or system
