Hi All!

Is there an option in tar wherein one can execute
commands right after it prompts the user for a new
tape for multipli volume backups(the -M option)?

Our current data set seems to be straining our humble
24gb DDS3 tape drive, so i had to resort to multiple
volumes when doing backups...in theory this would
work, but what happens is i usually forget to load the
next tape. i was thinking about making a shell script
that can at least inform us sysads that a new tape
needs to be loaded -- be it the usual wall broadcast,
smbclient -M pop, email, singing telegram, whatever
gets our attention.

Is this possible with tar? If not, can you suggest
alternatives(including commercial ones)? Thanks!
