I just skimmed the manual on this particular model but i do know that
you can directly connect it to a switch. Take note that when you do
this, you can't use your server as a firewall anymore. Maybe you can
configure the routing to be only between the router and the server so
that you can control the traffic but this still defeats the purpose of
attaching the router directly to the switch. Read the manual. I believe
it has a lot of features such as DHCP, port forwarding, etc.

You might want to install SWAT so that you have a web-based GUI for
Samba. That could turn out to be an added security risk though.
