Currently working on my masters thesis (Mobile Ad Hoc Network Security Related) University of the Philippines College of Science - Diliman, 1994-1999 Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Undergraduate Thesis: Fractal Image Compression - an image compression software done in C++ that utilizes fractal-like properties in digital images Philippine Science High School - Diliman, 1990-1994 Recipient, full scholarship Skills: Linux/Windows Systems Administration, C/C++, Python, PHP, Java, bash programming, PostgreSQL, MySQL, basic PC troubleshooting and use of security-related tools. Experience in Systems Administration: Part-time Systems Administrator (July 2003 - present) School of Organization Development Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute (SAIDI) Recently deployed a mail and web server running apache, php, postfix, mysql, courier-imap and squirrelmail Installed firewall using Mandrake's Multi Network Firewall on an old Pentium PC Installed an internal jabber test server Installed a browser based library management software PHPMyLibrary and migrated old ISIS catalogs Installed moodle running in postgresql, a web-based learning environment Currently using Debian based system on an old P75 32Mb ram for firewall, djbdns, dial-in and backup server for my home network. Current projects: Creation of PHPNuke,PHPMyLibrary and moodle manuals for SAIDI teachers and staff Integration (if possible) of the web-based modules mentioned Computer Programmer II (May 2000-July 2003) Department of Mathematics University of the Philippines, Diliman Responsibilities include: Installation of a Message Passing Interface (MPICH) for parallel programming on a Mandrake Linux based Network of Workstations (NOW). Maintenance of Linux servers (4 Mandrake,2 Debian),Windows NT servers & email system in the Department. Installation and integration of Linux & NT workstations on faculty and student laboratories. Provided technical support to faculty and staff. Maintenance of the heterogeneous local area network. Acquisition of computer hardwares and peripherals at a very cost-efficient manner for the benefit of the department. Accomplishments include: Took a major part on the installation and deployment of the Department's 7-node dual processor Beowulf Cluster Single-handedly managed and provided technical support to more than a hundred faculty members of the department, plus its graduate and undergraduate students, for a period of 2 years Deployed a print-server running Debian Linux and printbill for print quota feature. Upgraded the Department's file servers to Mandrake Linux running Samba, Samba-TNG, NIS and NFS. Assisted in the deployment and creation of the department's web site (www.math.upd.edu.ph). Installed and maintained the student laboratory running Windows NT Server and Windows NT workstations. Reinstalled the server in FreeBSD, then migrated the lab to Linux including the server. Installed and deployed a simple backup server in Linux using shell scripts. HP SureStore DAT8 was used as the tape backup device. Some experience in FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Solaris. Experience in Computer Programming: Deployed a small savings account system for Siargao Bank Inc. (June 2003 - November 2003) Responsible for server deployment. Introduced and convinced fellow programmers to use Python and Postgresql for the project. Created a small utility for user management. Responsible for modularization of the software. Created SBI installer for windows using NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) Parallel Programming Class, MPI and C (June 2002 - October 2002) tasked by the professor to help and assist fellow students regarding MPICH programming. Advanced Computer Networks Class, Java (June 2002 - October 2002) - created a simple threaded reliable trivial file transfer program over UDP using Java Advanced Software Engineering Class, Java (Nov 2000 - March 2001) - Member of the EhomeNet Team, developer of a simple networked SmartHome Simulation controllable via Java enabled web browser. Our group was given an opportunity to present EhomeNet in the Asean Java Competency Program (AJCP) Manila Launching last February 2002. Responsible for most of server side Linux specific programs. Software Engineering Class, C++ (Nov 1999 - March 2000) Developed Network Dama for Windows using DirectX & C++ Builder Current plans/projects include: Currently developing a software for a friend's small tutorial center. The goal of the software is to monitor and record learner and tutor sessions, and based on that data, automate the billing and accounting process and be able to generate reports. My personal goal is to be able to create a database aware wxPython components similar to what you find in Delphi or C++ Builder. I am currently using wxGlade, pyPgSQL, postgresql and Python. Partly finished Simple Inventory Tracking System, using PostgreSQL, PL/pgsql and C++ Builder. To improve my Python skills, I will use wxGlade, Python, wxPython as replacement for C++ Builder for developing the client side program, thus, deeming the whole project 100% Open Source-developed. Related Key Competencies: As the systems administrator of the Mathematics Department, I was responsible for all the production servers (file, mail, firewall) in our department. I managed mostly Linux servers, though from time to time, I maintained other *nix variants (BSD,Solaris) as well. I also have experience on maintaining a Windows NT network. Through Samba, our Linux file server acts as a Primary Domain Controller for our Windows Workstations. I am comfortable with shell scripting, C/C++ and Python. In our department, I was tasked to analyze and solve network related problems. It was also my responsibility to improve and implement network designs for them. As a graduating MS Computer Science student of UP Diliman, I am exposed to research areas that are slowly finding their way into the IT industry. Some examples are grid computing, heuristic optimizations, parallel computing, fractal image compression and security. I believe that with these exposures, I am capable of handling job requirements where solutions are not trivial in nature.
