Hey, that EPIA suggestion looks interesting... although it would be great if we can get even cheaper (and lower specced hardware). We don't really need the 3d graphics support or even VGA (tho, with the scale of integration today, I don't think there's any advantage to asking for VGA - or even SVGA - support to be removed). A true single chip PC[1], and not just a super-small board would still be the best solution... know of any?
I just realized that it makes sense to want to run Linux on the terminal (vs. the dumb, OS-less terminal emulator I had in mind earlier) because if you want to run over a LAN, you need the TCP/IP support the kernel gives you. Thus, you do want at least a 386 class CPU and 16MB RAM. Actually, with a properly stripped down kernel, 8 or even 4MB RAM might suffice, since the only real app running on it will be a text-based terminal emulator, so perhaps there is a single chip PC that even includes the 8MB of RAM directly on it in addition to the stuff mentioned in [1]?
[1] It should be CPU + low specced VGA (no fancy 3D or MPEG support) + LAN + SERIAL PORT + optionally, an IDE controller on a _single_ chip.
