I'm thinking that you're in the mindset that no computer is safe without an anti-virus system, since you're new to Linux and straight from Windows. The short answer is that no, antivirus software of any kind is in general superfluous on a Linux system. If you want an explanation as to why, read this page: http://www.linuxmafia.com/~rick/faq/index.php?page=virus On the other hand, Linux servers very often act as mail gateways for networks containing machines that are vulnerable to viruses, so there is anti-virus software running on Linux that filters out evil attachments. This is not "anti-virus software for Linux", but anti-virus software being run on the Linux mail server for the benefit of other operating systems that require virus protection. If this is what you need, there's clamav (http://www.clamav.net/) and amavis (http://www.amavis.org/) that you can set up to filter mail on the gateway so that your Windows clients will always get virus-free mail. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
