Quoting e_plug <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > hi guys, is there a way to set password on each folder with samba sharing?
Yup. > for example, i have a public directory which has folder1, folder2 & folder3 > respectively, folder 1 & 2 can be access without pwd but the folder 3 needed > to supply password... > > is this setting is set on smb.conf or on the linux box itself? (Well, smb.conf /is/ a configuration on the linux box itself.) That's not hard to set up. You need to create users first, and set their respective passwords for samba. See the man page for smbpasswd(8) (which is separate and different from passwd(1)). The system manages samba accounts separate from regular user accounts. In smb.conf, you can specify which users are to be allowed access which shares. You should see the man page for smb.conf(5) for the syntax. You might also want to see the sections on password management. -- Paolo Vanni M.
