NCC to close deal with Red Hat Software By Erwin Lemuel G. Oliva Inquirer News Service http://www.inq7.net/inf/2004/may/01/inf_1-1.htm
THE NATIONAL Computer Center is set to close a deal with Red Hat Software, an open source company that offers Linux operating system software, a top official told INQ7.net. According to NCC head Tim Diaz De Rivera, this deal, which is being worked out with Red Hat's Australian distributor, will enable government employees to enhance their skills in open source environments. NCC, through its educational and training arm National Computer Institute, signed last week an agreement with Microsoft Philippines that will also create a separate training course focusing on the software company's products. The NCC is also in discussions with other vendors like Oracle, Hewlett Packard, and IBM with the same objective in mind, De Rivera said. The official said that the computer agency will partner with more vendors to allow the agency to offer a comprehensive course to government employees. ICT training courses offered at NCI range from the basic Microsoft Word use to more sophisticated programming courses such as Java programming and C++, as well as IT management courses. "This is all part of our capacity building program for e-governance," added De Rivera. -- Please visit the Prolife Philippines website: http://www.prolife.org.ph --[Manny [EMAIL PROTECTED] Philippine League for Democratic Telecommunications, Inc.
