The Download edition (isos) of version 10 (Official) of the Mandrakesoft
Distro have been around for a few weeks already via bit torrent, i do not
see any reason why it cannot be redistributed, as per GPL.

If you want to support Mandrakesoft for the good products they release,
there is always:

1. Buy an official boxed set (if you need the dead-tree manuals)
2. Contribute to Mandrakesoft directly by joining their MandrakeClub.

afaik, the bittorrent is made available for mandrakeclub members as an incentive for their contribution. that is the reason why no iso images are yet available on the mirror sites although the rpm packages are. that wont stop anybody from creating an iso from the ftp sites and sharing them.

but like you said, its GPL. its the distribution maker's fault they made it GPL so they do not have the right to tell people (aka freeloaders) to wait for a few weeks while they reward those who have voluntarily helped them get out of bankruptcy. these people should not be kept waiting and everything should be handed to them in a silver plate.

btw, the paragraph above, while being delivered with lots of sarcasm, is being stated in good humor. :)

and that is just my suggestion. my point is only that if mandrakesoft allocated company resources (nothing is really free as in beer) to build a good distro, then i guess it should not have been an issue to grant them their request to implement a marketing strategy that would help them survive . its not as if they are saying that freeloaders should wait a year or more to get their distro, but only a few measly weeks. can we not give them that?

ciao!
