Frankly, unless you have a broadband Internet connection, and hence could download the (small) approx. 50 MB Gentoo LiveCD image easily yourself, Gentoo will be a pain to use. Unless you relish downloading 1GB+ of packages over a low-bandwidth dialup to get sources for system that's at least as usable as one of the more standard distros. It will take weeks. Unless of course you actually don't have a CD writer... > Specifically, since I use AMD Duron and Athlon, I need the Athlon > optimized Gentoo Linux installer. > You don't need the "Athlon optimized installer". Just install a stage1 system and compiler EVERYTHING from scratch, and I believe there are stage2 and stage3 tarballs that are specifically optimized for Athlon that you can easily download when you're ready. If what you're looking for are Gentoo reference platform packages optimized for Athlon, there are no more recent ones. Just bite the bullet and go for a stage1 install... -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
