For deploying windows updates in your LAN, check http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/sus/default.mspx
Or if bandwidth is the only issue and there is a lot of disk space in the squid server itself, try windowupdate cache.

What it does is it permanently cache downloads from microsoft (including windows update) and it stops the re-downloading of files that have already been fetched.
