Does anyone know a tool that works like Gnokii and can store retrieved and sent SMS to a database (more specifically a MySQL database)? We have tried using a couple of applications that connects a mobile phone to a PC (we are currently using gnokii) but we haven't seen a software that can save SMS directly to a database. Any suggestions would really be appreciated..
well you could try using GNokii with Gnokii::GSM Perl module. the Perl program will just periodically poll the phone, download any new SMS messages, and insert them in the database via Perl DBI. Trivial.
another way is to use GSMLib library (only works with phones that support AT commands -- meaning every Nokia from 7110 and up). Then use MySQL C client to insert in database. Trivial as well.
(you shouldn't be afraid to write your own software if the "off-the-shelf" open source packages don't do exactly what you want)
