You'll realize that SOAP / Web Services are really little more than an remote procedure call protocol designed to get around firewalls!
First we block ports known to accept RPCs because they represent a security risk (exactly how DCOM exploits like Blaster work).
Now MS stupidly reenable them again by adopting one that runs over unblockable (or extremely inconvenient to block) port 80 and then trumpets that as the next wave of innovation... sigh...... mankind's stupidity.
