Gee, only 3 responded yesterday. I'm sure there are more of you. Companies and Individual Consultants.
=================================================== Hi all, I'm giving a talk in PhilOSC next month about the 'State of Local Open Source and Linux Support'. I'm looking for information on local companies engaged in providing such services. If you're one of them, speak up now! FAQ: Q. Does the company have to be a 'pure' linux company? A. No, as long as you have a division/person actively supporting clients' open source requirments Q. Does it have to be a company at all? A. No, you can be a group of geeks that get paid regularly by companies and have a fixed set of offerings. As long as you are organized, and have a collective name and contact info, that's fine. Q. Who should we send the information to? A. Please send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED] PRIVATELY. Not to the list please. THIS IS NOT A GO SIGNAL TO ADVERTISE ON PLUG OR LINUXJOBS! Q. What information should we provide? A. Contact Person, Company Name, Address, Contact Details (Phone, Fax, Email, Cellphone, Smoke Signal), EXPERTISE (what you want to be known for), 1 Paragraph blurb on what your company is, and Website URL. Again, send this to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Q. I'm a company that uses Linux internally, am i included? A. Sorry no, not unless you plan to support linux externally. Q. I'm an independent consultant, can I join this list? A. You can, but your name will be grouped alongside other consultants. To differentiate yourself, make sure your expertise offerings are uber cool! Q. Is this free advertising or what? A. In a way, yes as I will be giving a handout containing the contact information of all who submit, and distribute them to the attendees of the talk. If there is an excess we will distribute it after the event. Q. But doesn't Ian Sison have his own Linux company? A. Yes, he does. But he will be making this talk as the president of PLUG who, by default, should be non-partisan, and impartial. I will endeavor to be true to this ideal. :) Q. WHEN is the deadline for sending this information? A. Tuesday, 3 August 2004. I need some time to compose the speech. Q. WHY should we even do this? A. Do this if: (1) You want to be known as an OSS provider (2) You want more people to know about your company's offerings (3) Your company wants to come out of the "closet" and support linux publicly. Remember those attenting the talk are people who are looking for people to support their OSS projects, so this is a very targetted audience.
