Fellow PLUGgers,

I got an invitation from Data Networks and Defense (Philippines), Inc.
for their ten-day seminar series (five days for basic training, five
days for advanced training) on security for Microsoft Windows and
GNU/Linux that will be held from 8 - 19 November 2004.

I've never attended a seminar like this before, and I've never
personally heard of Data Networks and Defense (Philippines), Inc. or the
speaker, so I'm asking around before deciding whether I should even
consider it or not. It's a little pricey at P28,000 for each five-day
seminar (that's P56,000 for the whole shebang!), so it's not something
that I can go to with an "I have nothing to lose" frame of mind.

I'd really appreciate everyone's input on this. Registration period ends
30 Sept 2004. Thanks!

 --> Jijo

The information in the invite doesn't seem to be available on the
DNDefense website, so here's a verbatim copy of what I got:

Technology has made our planet a smaller place. Indeed, we can now
ocmmunicate on opposite sides of the world in the blink of an eye.
We have the tools to transact business 24 hours a day, and libraries
of information are at the tips of our fingertips.

But such is the paradox of our time, for this information system
that enabled us to evolve in leaps and bounds can also be our
undoing. With the constant threat of network intrusion - both
internal and external - it is imperative that you arm yourself with
the knowledge and the tools to protect your corporate network.

Enroll in DnD's School of Anti-hack. Learn how Microsoft Windows and
Linux networks are compromised, and how you can proactively take
action before your organization makes headline. These courses are
packed with comprehensive theory and hands-on applications and
laboratory work coupled with lively interaction with the
    facilitators.

    Course Fee Inclusions:

Both Basic and Advanced Courses are provided with Student Manual
and DVD. Desktop computers will be available to those who will
not bring their laptops (though it is recommended for better
participation in the wifi attack). Lunch and snacks are also
        included.

    Course Outline:

        Week 1 : Basic Course : 8-12 Nov 2004

Day 1 - Comparing the commands between Microsoft and Linux,
3 way Handshake, Portnumbers, NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Day 2 - Advanced TCP/IP: Ping Sweep, Portscans, IP Spoofing,
            Promiscuous Mode, Fingerprinting

Day 3 - Attacking Microsoft Operating Systems

Day 4 - Attacking Linux Operating Systems

            Day 5 - Attacking WLAN

        Week 2 : Advanced Course with Forensics - 15-19 Nov 2004

            Day 1 - Sniffing Techniques

Day 2 - Security Analyzer, Firewalling with iptables

Day 3 - Intrusion Detection System

            Day 4 - Building a Honeypot

            Day 5 - Logfiles

        * Participants may enroll in the Basic Course only, or the
Advanced Course only, or both. However, Advanced Course-only
enrollees will need to take a qualifying written exam on TCP/IP
Fundamentals and related basic skills, OR Certification from
Microsoft and Unix -- including variants -- may be presented,
preferably Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Red
Hat Linux Certification or equivalent. This is needed to ensure
that the entire class will be in sync for all subject matters
        that will be covered.
