Thanks for all the suggestions. Running an old distro is a good idea -
my idea so far was to run a current distro. Guess that would be the
best practice to demonstrate.

The talk sponsor will provide a Windows box, so I'll use VMware to
simulate the different boxes. This will allows me to prepare the
system images beforehand, then hand-carry them to the site.
