I definitely agree with this, I use clamav side by side with trendmicro and sophos and i can say that the detection rate is awesome for an opensource AV.
I also have to mention that in my organization, clamav was the first to detect the bagle c worm that hit my smtp server, trend took 2 more days to detect the worm.
