Have you guys heard of Ubuntu Linux yet? In a nutshell
it's a Debian-like distro targeted at end-users. They
have releases every 6 months or so and use the Debian
unstable tree with their own fixes/patches. Ubuntu
basically still uses Debian by building on top of it
in every major release and also has its own apt
servers though all Debian packages are *fully*
compatible with it (according to them).

The biggest feature of Ubuntu is that like the Mac OS
X, root is disabled by default and have to be enabled
manually. I was told it workds *exactly* like OS X
where you can do sys admin using an administrator (not
root, they heavily rely on sudo). It's possible to run
Ubuntu without ever having to touch root (unless of
course you want to run it as a server and need total
control).

Another feature would be an automatic mount/unmount
when media is inserted. Data is written to media when
commands are executed (unbuffered) so data isn't lost
when you forget to unmount a USB drive. I'm not sure
if other distros are doing this already...

The Ubuntu Linux development team have spent a lot of
time in its development and they've decided to fully
follow the principles of Debian. No commercial
software!
