On the contrary, even server-class boxes powered by Xeon now come with
P4s with HyperThreading, such that a real two-CPU box is seen by Linux
as having four CPUs. I've deployed systems with one and two Intel
Pentium 4 CPUs with HyperThreading enabled (such that the Linux kernel
sees two and four CPUs, respectively). I use Debian Woody with a
custom-built 2.4.27 kernel and have no problems at all.
