Just wondering, were you able to put your root partition into an lv eventually? I spent the entire holy week and 2-3 days afterwards experimenting with md and lvm non-stop and finally got Slackware to install directly onto and run off of an lvm root partition. Like Mike Liguit said, you do need a separate /boot partition from which to load your kernel from, but that is just the tip of the iceberg: First, I had to modify the Slackware install scripts so that they would detect the logical volume and use it as the target install partition. After that came the most difficult part, which was figuring out how to make a working initrd. That one involved about a hundred reboots and half a dozen coasters (and a whole lot of linux learnin')... Interestingly enough, the process is quite easy once you've figured out how to do it. I think there is a very strong case for seeing vgscan / vgchange functionality integrated into the kernel, just like raid 1 autodetect works today. This would eliminate the need for a separate /boot partition and would pave the way towards people using logical volumes by default: https://www.redhat.com/archives/linux-lvm/2005-March/msg00111.html -- reply-to: a n d y @ n e o t i t a n s . c o m -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List plug@lists.q-linux.com (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
