my short and personal answer is no. the 1.5x rule-of-thumb is only if your machine keeps on hitting the swap partition to which adding more RAM is the recommended solution. i also have a 256MB machine and my swap are rarely used when i viewed it with free and top. if even with the new RAM addition your swap still gets used heavily and you think you need to add more swap then you can use this guide[1] as your reference. otherwise i think its just a waste of space. :) [1] http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-8.0-Manual/custom-guide/s1-swap-adding.html ciao! -- "Programming, an artform that fights back" Anuerin G.
