For me, every year since 1992 has been the year of the Linux Desktop. That

It's obviously a subjective & personal experience. It wasn't that long
ago that my wireless network adapter worked out of the box or I didn't
have to blacklist my onboard audio to use usb speakers or that audio
output would switch automatically if I unplugged them, or that only a
few distros used a rolling release or that the desktop enviro didn't
look & function like a web page from the 80s.
Yup, I'm a needy, high maintenance desktop user with a lot of
expectations. But now I can honestly tell any newcomer to Linux that the
Linux Desktop Enviro just works like it does on M$ or Apple w/o any
caveats or lil' white lies.
