Looking for an Open Source CAD program to create construction plans. I
don't need anything complicated, but would like something with components
like standard dimensional lumber I can just put in place to build walls,

permits. I've got to show construction details, stud and rafter spacing,
floor and roof details, etc.

I spent a long time looking for open source CAD for similar work. The only one I found with lots of support is BRL-CAD, https://brlcad.org/

It's way overkill, and, for me, has a steep learning curve. I have a copy of Corel CAD that runs on Win 2K, which I have running in a virtual machine. I already invested in the learning curve for it, and since I don't use it often, that's what I use.

There's also Sketchup from Google. I never got far enough into it to understand how it works. At one time they had a Linux specific version, but I think they abandoned that.

Sorry I don't have a happier report.
