In fact, do not attempt to perform any sort of installation or upgrade until you resolve the error with Google Earth. You will break your system to the point where the only solution is to reinstall from scratch. I've seen this error countless times since 8.04. This error literally predates Mint and end users have a tendency to break their installs over some bad error reporting.
