I neglected to mention on the MythTV list that you aren't using MythTV,
so here's more info than you were looking for. But maybe some of this
can be helpful:
Assuming you want Kodi to work with MythTV, current Kodi 17 works with
mythtv 0.28, 29 and 30pre (Master)
Depending on Ubuntu version you may need to use Kodi ppa (use stable)
see https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Linux
Xubuntu 18.04 has Kodi 17.6 Debian package version:
2:17.6+dfsg1-1ubuntu1 Media Center Kodi from Debian
Copyright (C) 2005-2013 Team Kodi from Debian - http://kodi.tv
General Kodi information https://kodi.wiki/view/First_time_user
Keyboard controls https://kodi.wiki/view/Keyboard_controls
Installing mythtv pvr addon https://kodi.wiki/view/MythTV_PVR
Note by default channel numbers in Kodi are different to those in
MythTV backend, to change this in Kodi go to
Settings>PVR & Live TV Settings>
Change Settings to "Advanced" this enables some hidden settings
In General select "Use channel numbers from backend" and restart Kodi
