These are mostly security updates that it pulls in. Set a schedule based on

Some people do weekly. Others monthly. In some cases users will check for
updates and make a decision to update based on their use case. There is no
right or wrong way.

To get a sense of how often Slackware pushes out security updates, and the
importance of these updates, check the changelog

Looking at that list, if I hadn't already done the upgrade the other day, I would say I should do it to get the Thunderbird and Firefox fixes. The Netatalk I'm not sure about. I read that it's an Apple Filing Protocol and is used for print servers. At the moment that's not an issue because I haven't got a working (on Linux) printer. But I will be trying to get our Brother 7820N printer working again. It is a network printer and works on my wife's Win7 machine, and has worked on my Ubuntu machines. For some reason it fails to work after awhile. I can't be more specific about "awhile" because of how infrequently I print anything. It's possible some Ubuntu upgrade overwrites the Brother driver.

Anyway, based on my reading of the above link, It looks like I don't need to do anything soon. I like the idea of setting a schedule, but not an automated running of the update. What I might do is set up a CRON entry to send me an email once a month to remind me to run the script from the earlier post.

Thanks for the ideas.
