Ha! That's awesome. SmartY is actually not a typo though. I've seen it
on older configuration apps for compiz.
Smart 'Y' refers to smart placement of app windows via the y-axis. On
X11, the y-axis is the height, up and down. So placing a window with
coordinates 100(x),0(y) results in the window being placed at the top,
100 units to the right of the left edge.
Since most people would place their panels on either the top or bottom
edge (or both) Compiz included a plugin to specifically limit the amount
of space on the Y axis for window placement and assume the maximum for x.
So for 1080p displays it might reduce to 1920x1000 which causes problems
on Unity since you have that big fat dock on the left side. Modern
implementations handle both x and y in a unified algorithm so the plugin
just says "Smart" placement.
